TrueQuote · Independent quote audits · Australian homeowners · General information, not legal advice

Is this quote safe to sign?

Some tradie quotes arrive as a few lines and a big number: no ABN, no dates, no warranty, labour and materials sealed into one figure. TrueQuote audits your quote against a 10-point completeness checklist (the things a well-documented quote usually contains) and returns a written verdict: Ready to sign, Gaps to fix, or Do not sign, plus the exact words to get what is missing. For homeowners and renovators about to sign a tradie quote. A$19 flat per audit, AUD GST incl., no subscription. It does not judge whether the price is fair: nobody can do that without verified market data, and we will not fake it.

The audit checks whether a quote is complete against our checklist. It does not judge prices against market data. TEST MODE: staged preview, checkout uses Stripe test mode and no real payment is taken.

Free tool

Compare 2-3 quotes side by side

Enter the line items from each quote and see where they differ. The tool compares your quotes against each other only. It cannot tell you which price is fair against the market, because that takes verified, current market data we do not have. General information only, not legal advice.

  • Runs in your browser, nothing is sent
  • Up to 3 quotes
  • Compares quotes, not the market

Line up the quotes in your hand

Use the same description for the same item across quotes (for example "Labour" or "Materials") so they line up in one row.

Add at least 2 quotes with line items, then press Compare quotes.

Amounts are compared only against the other quotes you entered. A highlighted cell means that amount is more than 30% above the cheapest amount entered for the same item, which is a prompt to ask questions, not a finding that the price is unfair. General information only, not legal advice.

How it works

From quote to verdict in three passes

Five minutes of your time, then a written report you can negotiate with.

STEP 1

You file the quote

Type it in, paste it as-is, or snap a photo of the paper quote: the trade, the job description, any itemisation, the business details shown, your postcode. Five minutes, no account needed to start.

STEP 2

We mark it up

Every line goes against the 10-point completeness standard. What is missing gets circled in red pen. Dodgy wording ("cash only", "no warranty", verbal promises) gets flagged. The whole job gets one of the three verdict stamps.

STEP 3

You negotiate armed

The written report is targeted within 24 hours: the verdict, every missing item, the red flags, and plain-language talking points to get the quote fixed. Then it is your call, with evidence.

Straight talk

One honest limit, stated up front

What the audit refuses to do is the reason to trust what it does.

What this pack does

The job, stated plainly.

  • Checks the quote against the 10-point completeness standard
  • Flags missing items, red-flag wording and structural holes in red pen
  • Returns one of three verdicts: Ready to sign, Gaps to fix, Do not sign
  • Supplies plain-language talking points to get the missing lines in writing

What it does not do

Boundaries are part of the product.

  • It does not tell you whether the price is fair: judging prices takes verified, current market data we do not have
  • It is not legal advice and does not interpret your contract
  • It takes no tradie referrals and no commissions: that is what keeps the audit independent
  • It will not act for you in a dispute: that is your state fair-trading body's job

Free help exists

We sell the audit. Licence registers and dispute help are free from the state.

A vague quote can lead to costly variations or disputes later. A$19 may be less than a typical trade call-out fee [unverified], and it is spent before you sign, when it still matters.

Turnaround and refund policy (planned for launch). We aim to deliver your written verdict within 24 hours of filing; if we miss that, we intend to refund the audit. If the report misses an item against the 10-point checklist, tell us within 7 days and we intend to re-run it or refund you. Final terms will be published at launch. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Questions

Straight answers, no sales talk

Asked, answered.

Why don't you judge whether the price is fair?
Because we would have to invent the answer. Fair pricing needs verified, current market data for your trade and region. We do not have that dataset, and an audit that invents benchmark ranges would be worse than useless. What we can check is whether the quote is complete against our 10-point checklist and whether its wording raises red flags. That is the whole product, and it is general information, not a legal opinion on the contract.
Will you act for me if the tradie disputes it?
No. TrueQuote provides general information and a written audit. It does not represent you, negotiate for you, or give legal advice. For disputes, contact your state fair-trading body.
Why not just ask the tradie to fix the quote?
Do, and the talking points tell you how. The audit exists for the quotes where something feels off and you cannot name it, or where the tradie pushes back and you want the missing items listed against a consistent, independent checklist.
What do I need to file a quote?
The quote itself (typed, pasted or photographed), the trade and job description, the business details shown on the quote, and your postcode. Five minutes.
Is a photo of a paper quote enough?
Yes, if it is legible. The auditor reads what is on the page: what is missing from the page is the finding.
Do you take commissions from tradies?
No. No referrals, no commissions, no advertising from the trades. The A$19 is the entire business model, which is what keeps the red pen honest.

Sign the quote when the paperwork earns it.

File the quote, get the red-pen markup and the verdict (24-hour target), then negotiate with the missing lines listed.
